Are you wanting to grow your Instagram following but not sure where to start? In this blog I am going to take you through my top tips for growing your account.
Know your Audience
Your current followers are the ones who are going to play a key part in boosting your following when they engage with your posts. This will play into the hands of the algorithm which will show your account to more people. Get to know your audience, find out who your followers are and who interacts with your posts on a regular basis. You can find some useful information on your followers in the “insights” section of Instagram. Insights goes into detail on their location, gender and age, this information will be able to give you an idea of your main audience so you know who you are targeting and which areas you should improve on.
Be Consistent
Being consistent with your posts will help boost your profile. Instagram likes its users to be active, the more you post the more they will show your page to people who don’t currently follow you. Have a plan in mind as to how many posts a week you want to do and when you want to post them, this will ensure consistency. I find it helpful to create some posts already with a caption and hashtags then save them in drafts that way, I know when it comes to posting, it’s a simple task to upload the draft. We don’t always have time to sit and think of a caption and hashtags so this method simply takes the stress out of posting under pressure!
Keep up with the Algorithm
Getting to know the algorithm will help keep your page growing, the algorithm will change every few months so it is important to keep up to date with it. This information can be found online and on the Instagram website, make sure you are reading the correct and relevant information.
Be True to Yourself
Being true to yourself will help attract the followers you want, we all know there is a ‘social media you’ and a real you, people want to see the real you. I like to post a little bit of my life so people can see I am not just a nail technician I am a human and I have a life away from my nail desk. People often like to see what you get up to on your days off and when you’re not working, it’s just human nature. It is completely up to you how much of your life you want to share but giving that little insight into you as a person is known for attracting and maintaining followers, it builds a type of trust.
Be realistic
Being realistic is so important, its all well and good knowing that you are going to post everyday and make sure you keep up with everything and all the trends, however putting this into action is a completely different thing. Having a plan in place will help you be realistic on how much you can post and work on your account. Set aside some time each week to draft your posts and work out what you will be posting, this way it won’t feel like a chore and the content will come naturally.
Keep a Consistent Theme
Make your grid as aesthetically pleasing as possible, remember, your account is your virtual shop window. Keep your theme consistent, if you have a different background each time this will make your grid look busy and not pleasing to the eye. However, if you have the same background then this will make your grid flow a lot better and make your profile look professional and aesthetically pleasing. Set yourself a theme and stick to it, I like to use a plain white background as this makes my pictures flow together on my grid.
